We originally had a hotel near the stadium as we are stopping in Sydney on this trip to celebrate Leigh's 20 years of life before ending it going over his 15th floor balcony facing Olympic Stadium. He was on the Australia Olympic baseball team to play in the Olympics in Athens. Not telling the story here just to say he flew over from Florida where he was playing with the Dodgers the day before he died. Narda and I were on the way to New York from Adelaide that weekend for our teaching jobs. We went to Sydney instead for Leigh. We arrived in New York a week later I was jetlagged broken and standing in front of a room of teenage girls at College teaching my first lesson. I still do not know how I made it through that day, that week.
We got a taxi to the airport. Side note; the hotel offered us a shuttle to the airport for 'only' $16 each. Stuff that. $32??? We ordya taxi, get this, for the five minutes ride. $13. Nineteen bucks less than the hotel offering.
